Hyderabad Metro Update: CM Revanth Reddy Progressive Vision
In a strategic move towards enhancing connectivity in Hyderabad, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has initiated a thorough review of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project, with a particular focus on the Airport Metro Ltd. The Chief Minister is keen on optimizing the alignment to better serve the city’s growing population and ensure connectivity to key areas.
Addressing Concerns:
The Chief Minister has directed authorities to scrutinize the concession agreement involving L&T and the contribution of GMR Airport in the Airport metro project. Expressing concerns over the current alignment along the Outer Ring Road (ORR), he emphasized the need to investigate how this decision was made in the G.O.111 area.
Prioritizing Connectivity:
With a vision for comprehensive city development, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has stressed the importance of equal expansion in all directions. He highlights that the majority of the city’s population resides in central, eastern parts, and the Old City, making it imperative to prioritize connectivity through these areas. To achieve this vision, the Chief Minister has instructed a halt on the present Airport alignment plan and its tender. Instead, he has called for the rapid development of alternative alignments. These include routes from MGBS-Falaknuma and LB Nagar, aiming to create affordable and fast connectivity to satellite townships.
Strategic Development:
Highlighting the tremendous potential for Hyderabad to become a global city, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy envisions accommodating a population of two to three crore by creating satellite townships around the ORR. In this plan, the Metro Rail system plays a pivotal role in providing efficient connectivity to these burgeoning areas.
Cost-Effective Alternatives:
The Chief Minister has urged the Hyderabad Metro Rail authorities to explore cost-effective alternatives. These include potential alignments via Mailardevpally, Jalpally, P7 Road, or Barkas-Pahadishareef and Srisailam Road. He encourages a straight-line alignment, even suggesting the possibility of cutting across open areas of the Airport premises, all of which are government-owned lands.
